Job Title: MySQL DBA (2 Positions)

Location: Foster City, CA

Duration: 5+ months

Job Description:

The main function of a database administrator is to coordinate changes to computer databases, test and implement the database applying knowledge of database management systems. A typical database administrator is responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing security measures to safeguard the computer database. An entry level database administrator typically has an Associates degree with previous experience in programming. As the levels progress, the years experience increase along with leadership expectations, with the introduction of a supervisory role at Level 4. The technical skills, including the ability to write and test programs, increase across levels, starting from basic at Level 1 to expert at Level 5.

Required Skills:

  • · 5+ years hands-on experience with MySQL, with detailed understanding of internals, specifically MyISAM and InnoDB storage engines, Replication and Partitioning (must have)
  • · GoldenGate replication (must have)
  • · Experience with BACKUP for MYSQL databases (must have)
  • ·
  • · Bachelor degree in Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent (must have)
  • · Extremely honed problem-solving and debugging ability (must have)
  • · Proficiency in BASH scripting (must have) and one of Perl/Python/PHP (nice to have)
  • · Familiarity with regular expressions for pattern matching and replacement (nice to have)
  • · Understanding of both OLTP and OLAP concepts (nice to have)
  • · MySQL Certifications valued, but not required (nice to have)
  • · Understanding of Java, MySQL Connector/J and Hibernate concepts (nice to have)
  • · Understanding of Hadoop and Map/Reduce concepts (nice to have)
  • · Experience with BACKUP for MYSQL databases (nice to have)

Responsibilities:

  • · Direct programmers and analysts to make changes to existing databases and database management systems
  • · Direct others in coding logical and physical database descriptions
  • · Review project requests describing database user needs to estimate time and cost required to accomplish project
  • · Review and approve database development and determine project scope and limitations
  • · Approve, schedule, plan and supervise the installation and testing of new products and improvements to computer systems
  • · Plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification or disclosure
  • · Develop standards and guidelines to guide the use and acquisition of software and to protect vulnerable information
