Job Title: Sr. Java Developer

Location: Chicago, IL

Duration: 6+ Months

Rate: Open

Roles & Responsibilities:

  •  On-call phone support. Monitoring application-level monitors with response to sitescope alerts and other monitoring tools
  • Will be part of an on-call rotation team, supporting a mid-scale web infrastructure on a 24/7 basis
  •  Responsible for maintaining several test environments and deploying application packages to support development and QA efforts
  • Must be a self-starter, willing to work closely with different teams towards a common goal
  • Troubleshoot prod and QA environments encompassing: file/directory permissions, performance counter monitoring and analysis, network Load Balancing, Firewall, DNS, and server routing
  • Troubleshoot application errors/issues and closely work with development-team, DBAs, Network Team on resolving those issues.  Independently perform route cause analysis on real time production environment
  • Notify stakeholders (Project Team, Tech Leadership) about system status and provide resolution for environment/application related issues
  • Troubleshoot prod and QA environments encompassing: tomcat configurations, user permissions, apache tomcat connector.

Required Skills:

  • 8-10 years of experience in IT, with a strong background in operations and web engineering
  • Minimum 3 years of experience supporting Java based web applications
  • Must have a demonstrable understanding of Apache Tomcat and httpd configuration
  • Mid-level RedHat Linux administration skills required
  • Experience maintaining multiple test environment, supporting the software life cycle
  • Must be comfortable developing shell scripts to minimize repetitive tasks, as well as modifying scripts developed by others
  • Past experience working within change management procedures and compliance
  • Must have a high level understanding of technologies that enable web, such as load balancing, content delivery networks, networking and firewall, and DNS
  • Must be able to assist other teams in clarifying technology requests and working as a liaison between business and technology staff
  • Experience with Git or SVN helpful
  • Experience writing and maintaining Puppet modules helpful
