Job Title: SQL Server DBA

Location: Chicago, IL

Duration: Permanent

The SQL Server Database Administrator will be responsible for supporting the company's SQL Server databases including troubleshooting, implementation of physical database changes, performance tuning, index tuning, monitoring critical events, performing backups and restores. Position will also interface with the Application Development and Operations teams.


  •  Lead support of SQL Server 2005 and 2008databases.
  •  Review and promote DDL changes, ETL processes, and scheduled tasks to production systems.
  •  Develop and implement metrics to monitor the performance and health of production servers.
  •  Work with other engineers to identify performance bottlenecks.
  •  Maintain documentation on operational processes.
  •  Ownership of database security access rights.
  •  Assist developers with database design and implementation of production applications.
  •  Establish and maintain a database backup and recovery strategy.
  •  Make recommendations for optimizing existing database code.

Required Skills:

  •  3 to 5 years of SQL Server database administration experience
  •  Demonstrable analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to quickly identify and solve database errors or performance bottlenecks.
  •  Experience writing Transact SQL and Stored Procedures.
  •  Extensive index and query tuning on high-transaction systems.
  •  Experience in designing, installing, and supporting SQL Server 2005.
  •  Exposure to SQL Server 2008
  •  Hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience
  •  Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and drive to be successful; ability to work with minimal supervision.
  •  Bachelor's Degree in business, computer science, engineering or an equivalent combination of skills, training, and experience is required.
