Context

An automotive manufacturer operated a multi-tier global supply chain where disruptions at tier-3 and tier-4 suppliers often reached the OEM weeks later — by which time production planning was already caught flat. Visibility beyond tier-1 was largely manual.

Challenge

Tier-N visibility required supplier-data sharing agreements that historically suppliers resisted. The project had to deliver value to suppliers as well as to the OEM, or the data wouldn't flow.

Approach

Thoughtwave delivered a 14-month supply-chain visibility platform: event-driven architecture ingesting supplier telemetry, disruption-detection ML, and a supplier-value proposition (operational alerts, forecasting assist, payment-status visibility) that made the data-sharing reciprocal. The engagement covered architecture, platform build, and phased supplier onboarding.

Outcomes

Disruption detection lead time improved 11 days on average — giving the OEM time to react rather than absorb; recovery coordination time dropped 38% through the unified event feed; the supplier-data-sharing standard the engagement established has become the client's baseline for new supplier agreements.
